Did You Ever Wonder?

February 26th, 2008

A few days ago we watched a video in language arts class called Did You Ever Wonder. It was very interesting and brought up some pretty interesting questions. Especially when it talked about teaching green but are they acting green? If not what is tat teaching? I think our school can relate to this because while Mr. J and Mr. R have the whole global issues and roots and shoots class but the building of our amazing school used so many unnecessary resources.  I also think it’s interesting about the high school dropouts statisticts, and I somewhat agree. I think that schools should require in the curiculum a course on global issues and how to help the environment.  I think that school can be boring when the information you’re having to remember is pointless for our future. I think everyone should know that we have destroyed 2/3 of the ecosystems we live off of.  If people don’t know this, why would they do anything to help?  As Paul Hawken said “We have become parasites and are devouring our hosts.” This is close to what Mr. R has said before about us being leeches of the world.  In Malaysia when we were bit by leeches and complaining about how stupid and pointless leeches were Mr. R reminded us that leechs need to suck our blood to survive, its not only because they feel like being mean to us. But as human-leeches we suck our earth dry, and only because of our wants. I think it’s important to realize this, and that our world isn’t perfect, we can’t keep surviving like this because we will eventually push our resources over the edge.
